Let’s Talk about Production first
His Dark Materials is based on Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials Novel series. In 2007, a film named “The Golden Compass” released and it was based on a novel. However, people who read the book criticized that it didn’t show all the elements in the movie. Therefore, this movie failed to win the Box-Office money as expected. As it didn’t earn a good reward on big-screen, Pullman decided to give it another shot on a small screen. New Line Cinema, Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner produced the upcoming British fantasy tv series based on the same novel.
Although BBC One UK and HBO produce this tv series it will be released on HBO. Even this show didn’t go on-air, but network renewed it for the second season of 8 episodes. This means that this show is going to be really exciting. We have high hope from HBO as people don’t want to miss Games of Thrones, they are looking for its best alternative tv series. So, let’s see HBO delivered the Best material or not.
What is Story of His Dark Materials?
The story of the show will revolve around a 12-year old girl Lyra Bevilacqua who will be protected by Will Parry from the danger of the universe. They wander across the parallel universe, and they pass through the world and underworld. They explore and solve both the world’s mysteries, treasons, and stories.
The main character is Lyra Belacque played by Dafne Keen. Other cast members are James McAvoy as Lord Asriel, Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter, Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby, Ruta Gedmintas as Serafina Pekkala, James Cosmo as Farder Coram, Lucian Msamati as John Faa, Clarke Peters as Dr. Carne
Anne-Marie Duff as Ma Costa, Ian Gelder as Librarian Scholar Charles, Will Keen as Father MacPhail, Ariyon Bakare as Lord Boreal, Georgina Campbell as Adele Sturminster, Mat Fraser as Raymond Van Geritt, Geoff Bell as Jack Verhoeven and Simon Manyonda as Benjamin de Ruyter.
First Trailer of His Dark Materials
Last day, HBO released a teaser trailer of His Dark Materials and one-thing which comes into your mind after watching the trailer is that “It is indeed very dark.” Ruth Wilson appeared as the story villain. The trailer begins with “You once asked me what is evil,” then scene changed and a man said, “I will protect you,” Lyra asked, “Protect, from what?”
Every child has some nightmare when they are pulled and snatched by something evil. Same going to happen in the upcoming dark British Fantasy series. “They are stealing our children” and “this is war,” an old man said. Now we need to know who “They are” and “ why they are stealing children” and what they had to do with them.
The trailer was bizarre and creepy, and it left so many questions whose answer we will get from the upcoming tv show. This show is not for kids; it targets younger-audience because Pullman’s trilogy includes the adult theme and concepts like actually killing The God, Death, and war.
His Dark Materials Release Date
HBO has a plan to release this TV show in Late 2019.
