Apple continues to push the boundaries when it comes to wearable, life-enhancing tech. Following on from the ongoing success of the innovative Apple Watch, with its range of powerful apps designed to uplevel and monitor the wearer’s health, the corporation has recently unveiled Apple Vision Pro, which will be available for sale early in 2024.

Apple Vision Pro is designed to seamlessly blend your digital content with your physical space, which the user navigates simply using their hands, eyes, and voice. For Apple, this innovation ushers in the era of the spatial computing age.

Precedents in Health and Wellbeing

Apple isn’t just about creating high-tech solutions to boost productivity and profitability. The brand retains a strong focus on improving users’ general quality of life by coming up with designs and devices that aim to make every day more enjoyable and routine tasks seamless.

The Apple smartwatch offers a range of apps such as heart rate notifications, blood pressure monitors, medication reminders, sleep quality assessments, and activity trackers to promote a healthier lifestyle.

The Arrival of Apple Vision Pro

Apple Vision Pro is designed to ‘free your desktop.’ No longer tied to a physical desk and traditional device, the headset allows users to access their apps and work from anywhere. Apps can be arranged to any scale, and multiple screens can be opened and remain visible simultaneously and moved between with a glance. The Vision Pro transforms the familiar apps we know and love by moving them into our own physical space. For extra convenience, content is automatically synced to the user’s iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

The Specs

The Apple Vision Pro comprises a headset (constructed of laminate glass and aluminum alloy and designed to curve comfortably around the face) that incorporates Spatial Audio speakers and a cushioned, breathable headband. There’s also an external battery pack that supports up to two hours of use or can be plugged in.

Immersive Entertainment

The device reimagines how we experience entertainment, too: users can turn any room of their home into a vast indoor theater! Movies, shows, and games can be expanded up to the size that suits them, and the incorporated Spatial Audio serves to make the viewers feel like they’re part of the on-screen action.

3D Camera

Apple Vision Pro’s game-changing 3D camera allows the user to capture images and videos in spectacular spatial 3D. When watching your memories, you’ll be surrounded by a panorama, giving the impression that you’re once more standing in the very spot where you captured the footage.

Making Collaboration More Meaningful

Staying connected with friends and family and taking part in work meetings is transformed with Apple Vision Pro. Video calls are life-sized, with screens being added to your space to expand the meeting as new members join.

Can I use the Apple Vision Pro if I Wear Corrective Eyeglasses?

There were some concerns regarding this question, as the Apple Pro Vision headset is snug fitting, meaning that prescription glasses and other types of eyewear can’t be worn beneath it.

However, glasses-wearers breathed a sigh of relief when it was recently announced by Apple that they were collaborating with the lens manufacturer Zeiss to ensure that the headset was compatible with the optical inserts produced by the company. These inserts can be manufactured to an individual’s specific prescription, and they’ll cling to the Apple Vision Pro headset via magnets, allowing them to be removed quickly and easily.

It’s important to bear in mind that these optical inserts will need to be purchased separately and won’t be available to buy as part of a Vision Pro bundle – although this could change in the future.

Apple Vision Pro: Looking to the Future of How We Use Our Devices

A key reason that Google Glass failed to live up to expectations was due to the fact that it missed the reality that the majority of people wear some form of corrective eyewear. The company didn’t offer device-compatible prescription lenses until many months after the headsets hit the market. Apple Vision Pro could well be the first major step in a major shift regarding how we use our devices by bringing our digital content into our physical space.

Given that around 65% of the population of the US wears corrective eyeglasses, the fact that Apple has taken this into account through its partnership with Zeiss in developing the Vision Pro bodes well and is helping to amp up the anticipation regarding the release of this potentially game-changing device in 2024.
