Rihanna’s Savage X Fenty Lingerie line enjoyed great success, and it is a good thing. But what doesn’t feel good is the trick which e-commerce site of Savage x Fenty played with its shopper, who had no idea that they were signing up for $50 per month Xtra VIP membership.
According to Vox Reports, many customers had no idea about their subscription to $50 membership until their account charged with money months later. You can find negative reviews and complaints about Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty company which people named as a “Scam,” and they asked for refunds from BadGalRiri.
Technically speaking, shoppers for the Savagex.com fell for the “Dark Patterns” of the website. Dark patterns of the website mean designs and interface techniques set in place in a way on a site whose users are tricked to perform desired actions. They provide money, personal data, and other information desired by the website through these patterns.
As far as Savage x Fenty’s e-commerce site is concerned, this website has “Sneaking Dark pattern kind”. This type entails “attempting to misrepresent user actions, or delay information that if made available to users, they would likely object to.”
So, in simple words, when you add a particular product from the store to your cart, then it doesn’t only add a product but also your membership subscription in your cart. When you checkout, you don’t see any extra money since your account is not getting charged at that point. But, it explains how much money you are saving with the mean of Xtra VIP membership.
Users don’t read the checkout quite well, and this is how they fell for the dark pattern of the website. They don’t realize their subscription until it’s too late to do anything i.e., their accounts are charged on a monthly basis for the subscription cost. Same happened in the case of Rihanna’s Fenty x Savage website.
A spokesperson for the company told Vox, “Customer satisfaction is critical to us, and we strive to provide the highest level of service to hundreds-of-thousands of customers worldwide. While complaints are a very small minority, as a new company, we are always looking for ways to listen and improve.”
When he was asked about the dark pattern of the website, he didn’t respond. Let’s see shoppers get a refund from this new company or not.
