There were tributes to the late director John Singleton in the show. He died in April following a stroke. Another tribute is to rapper Nipsey Hussle. He was killed in March in front of his own store shop.

However, Hussle’s family accepted his award. And DJ Khaled and singer John Legend are performing amazingly during a musical tribute.”

Host Regina Hall gave the audience a bit Beyoncé/”Homecoming” parody at the start of the show. This parody contends off Hall is a native of Washington D.C.

Famous singer “Sugar Bear’ ended up this stunning tribute with D.C.’s go-go ethnic music. He is singing the classic song of the 1980s “Da Butt.”
